In wilderness areas in British Columbia’s interior plateau, I have seen several Golden Eagles. They prefer high altitudes, canyons, and mountainous habitat and are found in most countries in the northern hemisphere. I have also seen them sitting on fence posts lining open fields. They are magnificent in flight with a wingspan of two meters or more. They are dark brown in colour, with light, golden-brown plumage on the back of their necks. This bird was likely immature, judging by the white markings on its tail and wing feathers. Golden Eagles are listed as endangered and/or threatened in some areas.
