Did you ever want to get away somewhere, just for an hour or two? Well, you can! Creativity can take you anywhere in your mind, that you want to go. There's plenty of information to prove that engaging in creative activities is good for you. It actually improves all aspects of your health, from memory and emotions to physical and mental health. In this column, I'm not going to quote all the sources I have read, so you'll just have to trust me!
All forms of creativity are equal in value: be that music, writing, the dramatic arts, fabric arts, sculpting or other visual arts such as painting. Each one of us has the potential to be artistically creative in some way. Some people seem to be naturally gifted and others have to apply themselves to succeed. That's true with everything, so various forms of art, are no exception!
As a child, I spent most of my spare time engaged in creative activities. Then as an adult, there I was, minding my own business, working hard in the everyday work world, when I had the overwhelming need to paint! I tried to ignore it for years, but eventually I could not suppress this urgent need any longer. It was as if my life's work would not be complete if I did not paint. I chose painting, or rather, painting chose me! I now understand the benefits of creativity for me. It feeds my soul.
The health balance achieved when the creative arts are practiced, is immeasurable. Not everyone has such a dramatic start to being creative but you can have a great Art Adventure too! It is the ultimate vacation from the doldrums of the everyday grind. Find your creative muse and take a mini-vacation from the world!
