With light rays falling through the openings between dense trees along the forest path, I am drawn to the finer details of the flora illuminated at my feet. Momentarily highlighted, nature’s abundance in this wild place offers ferns and other plant species of infinite varieties. Glowing green mosses carpet the forest floor, blanketing the contours of rocks, snuggling around tree trunks, and draping their branches in luxurious softness. Catching my eye, dappled water sparkles ahead of me, scattering the sun beams. I am entranced. Finding my way along the narrow, peaceful, spring trails in this paradise is healing. It calls to me and I am ready to share my excursion in nature through my painting!
Representing this bounty of beauty on canvas, can be achieved with vision and a few choice colours. Two of my favourite paints are transparent red oxide and green gold. I like them for their transparency and the effect they have when layered over other colours. To get started, I set up my easel and canvas, place my paints on my palette, and center my enthusiastic energy. Standing still and observing my surroundings, ushers a myriad of delightful subjects into perspective. Even curious birds seem to alight on close branches to have a peek. A few hours spent painting in our local rainforests is rejuvenating. While I love to paint the sea, early spring in the forest is my preference, as it provides some protection from the chill of the ocean winds.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, take an enthusiastic heart and an open mind with you. Make today the best it can be by doing something kind, something creative, or something you love! Cheers, Patricia
