The who, what, where, when, why, and how, of any plan, applies to art too. These questions will prompt your goals. It is an easy way to establish what you really want from your art making. The clearer your goals are, the easier they are to implement. Everyone’s goals are different: some artists find their joy in the actual process of making things, while others want to produce a finished product by the end of one session. Many artists enjoy the social aspects with like-minded friends, while others prefer the solitude their creativity brings them. Others may be motivated by notoriety, income potential, or tangible support for a benevolent cause. Still others have a preference to decorate their own walls, while many like to decorate their clients’ walls. Once you have established your goals, there is a world of opportunity to learn, just waiting for you!
The proverbial question posed by all artists at one time or another is: “How did they do that?” I like books; good books with pictures of art, written by talented, creative artists who are skilled in their ability to explain both theory and practice. I want to understand what I am doing and to know the details of how to do it. Armed with information, I have plenty of choices on the why and how, of what I can do. Art videos are extremely helpful, especially for us visual learners. When I can “see” a technique executed, I can repeat it – well, most of the time… In-person lessons are great! They are a current luxury due to health restrictions, but well worth it if appropriate safe practices are maintained.
I’ve started, have you started your learning Art Adventure yet? Cheers, Patricia
