While my work as an artist requires me to work alone producing paintings, restoring artworks, preparing frames, et cetera, an equal amount of time is spent with people - teaching students, participating in art shows and events, and running my own Art Gallery. Like many businesses in the Arts, contact with clients, the local community, and the general public is essential to the success of my business. I, as the artist, am the business. The joy of connecting with people, art enthusiasts, buyers, and other artists, makes the long hours spent alone, worthwhile. So how do we navigate the changes thrust upon us?
If ever an artist needed an imagination, it is now. It is time to rethink and improvise ways to engage in the ‘social’ aspects of our work. How fortunate we are to live at a time when communications with others can be as simple as a telephone call or computer click away. Success in the transition from the ‘way we have always done things’ to establishing new habits, rests in our attitude and gratitude. Survival is about adaptation and happiness is a choice. I invite you to make today a happy day! Cheers, Patricia.
