Creating a “bucket list” – a list of all the things you really want to experience or accomplish in your life – is a great way to stay in touch with the things that bring us joy. As time moves fast, it is good to regularly review our bucket list to see how we’re doing. At the top of mine are travelling and painting.
Travel has the power to expand our minds through direct experience and first-hand knowledge of the world around us: the people we meet and the places we visit. Curiosity and learning energizes our brains, and keeps us healthy and engaged in life. Painting outdoors on location or en plein air is an enriching and fun experience. Painting, as opposed to taking photos, helps us to slow down and really see and understand what we are viewing. Plein air painting, as Melissa Jean explains “is about taking home memories – contemplating the subject with all senses… smell, touch, temperature, weather – the feeling of warm sun or the start of a rainstorm – and sound…” It’s time to tick this one off our bucket list and make it happen!
In partnership with Imagine Cruises of Nanaimo, I am organizing a European River Cruise for September 2019. (If you would like to join us, please visit my website or email me for more details, see below.) This might be your Art Adventure of a lifetime!
